DIY Monster Horns - 13 Days of Handmade Halloween 2016: Day 12

It's day 12 of the 13 Days of Handmade Halloween today's DIY idea is being shared by Stephanie Knieram of SK Designs.  I am screeching with delight over her Monster Horns tutorial.  When I saw the photo below I actually jumped - this is so AWESOME - God, I love Halloween!!!!

Silly Monster Trunk or Treat

Who's going Trunk or Treating this year??!!!  Well, I'm happy to participate in another Trunk or Treat Blog Hop hosted by Tikkido!  Today I'm sharing my fun and SILLY Monster Trunk or Treat ideas with you.  Last year my trunk or treat theme was a bit morbidly cute....I mean, gravestones, black cats...it's all fab Halloween goodness.  This year, I'm all in for laughs and giggles.  I found the most adorable Silly Monsters party goods at Oriental Trading this year and can't wait to share all my fun tips and ideas for setting up your very own fun and silly Monster themed trunk or treat!

If you've been reading my blog for a while, you know I'm super crazy about Halloween.  It's my absolute favorite holiday!  So, when decided to focus on a fun monster theme this year I wanted to get really fun costumes, weird treats and have some activities and not just focus on the candy.

All the decorations for my trunk setup are from Oriental Trading company.  They have the most adorable monster themed decor.  I found a huge monster mouth photo prop that I thought would be great for photos. When I took it out of the box, I instantly knew I could do more with it.  So, I made it the focal piece for our trunk.  I had my husband add some support and a stand to the back of the prop and then placed bowls of sweets in behind the mouth.  Using a few glasses and two sided tape, I propped up monster cut outs from the Monster Decorating Kit and hung hanging decor from the ceiling using T-pins and push pins.  The Monster Treat Stand with Cones were also another great decorative piece.

My 'MOM-ster' costume was an easy DIY.  I used a Blue Beehive Wig and enormous Glow in the dark googly eye and dressed up in khaki's, a polo top, pearls and an apron!  My kids followed along the monster fun.  My daughter loves this Polka Dot Monster Girls Halloween Costume and my son had a blast dressed up as a Purple eyeball - it really is a costume made for adults, but I think he did it justice in his own little way.

I set up fun activities like Pin the Eye on the Monster, make your own monster with a Monster Magnet Craft Kit, a Monster Bean Bag Toss Game and downloaded Mini Monster Free Printable Coloring Page directly from the Oriental Trading site.  Then, for each activity that was completed, I handed the kids a  Monster Face Sticker for a 'prize'. You can do the same and make sure that once all the activities are complete the trunk or treaters get a bag of sweets!

I love that I also found fun candy from Oriental Trading.  As soon as I saw these Snotten Candy Cotton Candy Fun Pak bags, I knew I had to get them for my kids.  They LOVE cotton candy!  They also love marshmallows and these Oozing Eyeballs are right up their lane.  They also have the most adorable Goofy Monster Head Suckers.  I used these along with Laffy Taffy candy in our treat cones.  To mix things up a bit, I added a few frosted sugar cookies to our sweets spread because......cookies.

Bone Chilling Halloween Ice Cream Party

Host a BONE CHILLING skeleton themed ice cream or I-SCREAM Halloween party!

Celebrate Halloween this year with an ice cream party that will make your brain freeze and sure to make you scream...with delight!


Clearly, ice cream is a summer thing, but honestly, who stops eating ice cream just because the weather is cooler?  I know I don't so, throwing a Halloween Ice Cream party will NEVER not be a thing!  Making this party a success was super easy.  I ordered some fun items from Oriental Trading, raided my party stash and dashed to the store to grab a few cartons and cups of ice cream, along with some ghoulish fixins!  The glasses were the inspiration for my overall theme, SKELETONS!  So, I used a lot of skulls, bones and skeletons everywhere for my bone chillin' bash!

I found these Skeleton Hand Glasses and knew they'd be perfect for holding ice cream cones.  I lucked up and found chocolate ones from Walmart!  SCORE!  Be careful with using big cones....once you put your ice cream in them, they are a bit top heavy and TRUST ME you don't want ice cream crashing down all over your pretty party table.......IJS. You can add small plastic skeleton hands to the top of spoons for added creepability!

These cardboard coffins were dollar store finds and I painted them with black chalkboard paint (make sure whenever you paint something that the paint is either non-toxic or protected with a food safe material).  You can fill your containers with whatever toppings you want.  I chose marshmallows, crushed bones,  gummy body parts, peanut butter flavored candy corn (cracked teeth), gummy worms and crushed oreo cookies (hallowed ground).

Realistic snakes slithered around small ice cream cups that I placed on a tiered stand.  I painted a lot of the items I received from Oriental Trading with black paint.....I just wanted a different look.  Remember, when in doubt....paint!  

OH LOOK!  My little 'ghoul' popped up to taste out all the goodies!

We also figured that ice cream could be a 'feast for crows' and dolled up two crows with a little Elizabethan Swag!  These black and white candy treats are great favors and can also go with any spooky soiree!

If you love a party you love a good party favor and these spooky soiree bags can be filled with treats for those who have allergies and filled with toys or other non-food takeaways!  Place them on a pedestal platter flanked by a spooky bird spindle with a decorative chalkboard sign letting guests know they're in for a treat!  I loved the look of this chalkboard sign, but because it was cardboard, the grooves in the material showed through the lettering -- just and FYI.
