Peter Rabbit Spring Mantle

Have you seen the trailer for the new Peter Rabbit movie?  I am super excited to take my kids to the movie so they can watch mischievous Peter and all his farm and field friends get into a bunch of shenanigans!

My FAVORITE thing to do when I'm not busy with the hundreds of things going on in my life is to curl up in a quiet corner and read.  I am such a book worm!  I remember being a small child, in nursery school (does anyone else remember nursery school??? Was that a thing everywhere or just where I grew up.....I digress) and there was this lush bright yellow carpeted corner of the classroom that had shelves filled with books upon books.  I was always drawn to books with the brightest illustrations!  I didn't really 'read' at such a young age....but I certainly remember the images.  One of my favorite books to thumb through was The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter. 

The images of Peter running through Mr. McGregor's farm, getting caught in a few traps, and finally returning home always stood out to me.  It's a book that I would always grab and look through during quiet times.  Suffice to say, I'm beyond excited to catch this tale on the big screen.  I'm also  inspired to start decorating my home for spring with all the fabulous items that Cost Plus World Market has available that are inspired by the new movie!

Recently, I was perusing the Cost Plus World Market site to see what items I could nab to decorate our home to create a Peter Rabbit spring mantle.


The first item that I immediately want to put on my list is this adorable Felted Wool Peter Rabbit Figure quite naturally, it's the star of the show and would be the perfect center piece for my mantle.  To give it some height, I would place the figure on top of a stack of Mini Peter Rabbit Story Books . 

The next item I found was this Peter Rabbit Snow Globe  it's a treasure!  You can see Peter doing what he does best -  sneaking vegetables from Mr. McGregor's garden!  This is such a fun collectible  - I consider this a MUST HAVE item....additionally, I would definitely add these Flopsy, Mopsy and Cotton-Tail  Paper Pulp Peter Rabbit Sisters Figures and each figure has the character's name added to the base.  The Blue And Green Peter Rabbit Ceramic Egg Cookie Jars are DARLING!  I love the silhouette shape and that they can be used as a jar or vase!  They would look perfect positioned on opposite ends of my mantle!

This tale takes place mostly on a farm....so quite naturally my mantle will need to scream Farmhouse style!  When I saw this decorative Metal Wheelbarrow  I knew that it would be a perfect fit.  It would look so festive filled with Bright Green Exelsior, Faux Heather Bundles and these Peter Rabbit Candied Sunflower Seeds - I love that they are wrapped in a carrot shaped package - so fun!

Every mantle deserves certain key pieces that perhaps, wouldn't necessarily be used as decoration, but could certainly serve a dual purpose, whether that be a decorative plate or a tray, and these Peter Rabbit Melamine Egg Shaped Plates  or these Peter Rabbit Veggie Plates are and 'eggs'-cellent choice!  I'd either place some of these treat-filled Peter Rabbit Easter Crackers  on them or prop one up on a plate stand and present it as a display piece.   I also like the idea of stacking these Veggie Bowls on top of each other and filling them with decorative pastel eggs!  The good thing is that the bowls and plates are also great for kids parties and because they're Melamine, they're practically unbreakable! 

I'd be amiss if I didn't include either this vibrant and colorful Wood Happy Easter Garland  to the my spring mantle.  It would look perfect swagged across the front.  I would even add this Pastel Egg Wreath Decor  the twisted vine and leafy accents reminds me of the berry vines that Peter gets tangled in and it will work seamlessly into my Easter decor.

I'm so excited that spring is upon us and I can get my home ready for the Easter holiday.  I'm equally anxious to see this movie!  I'm definitely heading to my local Cost Plus World Market store  at Pentagon Row in Arlington, Va to zshush up my home, If you're as excited as I am head to your local store HERE.

Celebrating Easter with Family

I am normally a paper invitation kind of gal.  However, I do use Evite for our smaller events when we're entertaining at home or having a meetup for dinner or even lunch with friends.  This way, I can easily keep track of who will be coming.  Evite also makes it easier for anyone who is always on the go, you can RSVP lickity-split and add the date to your calendar.  It really makes life simpler.  I also love that there is an option to also send greetings and even tangible gifts to your loved ones, as well. So, I'll be sure to use Evite this year to send a little online love to those who won't be able to visit with us this Easter holiday.

I was asked by Evite recently to share how I celebrate the holiday with my family.  Evite has a wide variety of  online Easter greetings available on their site to choose from. I chose a beautiful watercolor Easter basket design and used it as inspiration for how I will be celebrating with my family.

In our home, Easter is that one holiday that starts up the family gatherings after winter's passed and spring brings out the happiness of new life and color.  I love entertaining for friends and hosting parties for others, but there is nothing more special than to pull out my favorite dishes, silverware and serving plates and gather my loved ones around a holiday table.  Besides, I don't really need that much of a reason to decorate for a holiday or special event, so, anytime we can get family and friends over to entertain and have a good time, we're game!

Each year we usually start our Easter day with either Sunrise or Early Morning service.  We prefer to get our fill of the Lord early in the day so we can have the afternoon for lots of good eating and fun activities for the kids.  This year, I know we'll be going to church early and I thought it would be a great idea for us to come home to a lovely brunch. You can use the ideas I am sharing for inspiration to create your own holiday family memories.

For simple brunch food, I wanted to include dishes that my family loves.  Every Easter, we usually have a huge Ham and big old pot of Green Beans.  This year, I wanted to scale down how much food we made.  I got lucky while I was out shopping for our Easter dinner when I found the cutest baby ham at Target!  I didn't even know ham could be so adorable. It was super easy to roast up in the oven.  Normally my husband cooks the green beans the old fashioned southern way, boiled down in salt pork, and it tastes great. However, since I've recently changed my way of eating and sneaking my lighter cuisine into my family's diet, I wanted to try something new.  So, this time I sauteed the green beans in Sesame oil and added garlic, mushrooms and radishes to them and topped them with slivered almonds.  They're super yummy.

Brunch always needs breakfast food.  For a spin on a deli style breakfast sandwich, I made egg salad toasties topped with bacon.  These are very easy to make, just add a basic egg salad, to toasted bread cut into small squares and top them with chopped bacon.  My kids love egg salad and bacon....wins all around.  They also love French Toast in the morning.  I did something different this time and used a loaf of blueberry bread instead of basic white bread and it really was delicious.  You can also use French Bread or Brioche. 

An Easter Brunch would not be complete with out a brunch punch. Brunch Punch can be your favorite fruit juice with seltzer and a few frozen berries!  It's a delicious spin on a Bellini or Mimosa.  Serve cupcakes for dessert....because....CUPCAKES!

Everything for my table decor came from my party stash....except for the large plates, bowls and napkins (I created those bunny ears using this tutorial).  I normally use white plates for my place settings, but I again wanted to draw some color into this tablescape using the inspiration from the Evite greeting.  Also, I designed my Easter Basket centerpiece using the main design from the card.  I simply filled a wooden basket with old newspaper, a bit of floral moss and water color decorated Easter Eggs!  The rest of the accessories on the table were pulled from my Easter and spring decor. 

We don't usually do a separate kids table for Easter, but I don't want the table to look like it's for grown ups only.  I know the kids love bunnies, chocolates and Easter Eggs, so, adding those elements to the table were a must. 

Easter is usually never as fancy a holiday for us as Christmas or Easter is.  Since I wasn't making a lot of food, there was space to add small platters of the dishes I prepared for our meal!  This gives us more time to pass the plate around and chat without having to get up and down for seconds!

Here's a tip for adding flowers to your table decor.  I love using small jars and egg cups and simply adding cut flowers to them.   Small mason and canning jars are a great way to make clusters of flowers around your table.  I use mini carnations all the time and fill glass jars with them for our holiday parties. 

Evite gets the fun started but you can always create great memories with your family and loved ones. Every Easter weekend, we dye a few eggs and set them out for the Easter Bunny to take with him when he drops of the kids' baskets.  We always end our Easter with a fun Egg Hunt for the kids in the family.  It's always such a delight to see them running around and gathering all their treats.  I need to find some other fun games and activities that we can do. 8 Simple and Easy Easter Projects and Treats

Easter is just a few weeks away.  I've celebrated many Easter treats and parties with you all and was taking a walk down memory lane.  I thought a round up of my favorite Easter ideas would be pretty fun and maybe give you some inspiration for your own holiday celebrations.

I'm not a cookie artist by any stretch of the imagination.  I do however know how to work some buttercream and a piping bag.  So, when I learned how to decorate shaped cookies with buttercream frosting like these Buttercream Easter Cookies, I was hooked!

Mason jars make great vases.  Add a bit of whimsy with a burlap ribbon and a large cotton ball shaped into a bunny tail.  Find more Farmhouse Easter ideas from this farmer's market Easter party I styled.

Put those plastic eggs on a pedestal....literally.  You can make Easter Egg 'nests' using dried moss, then place a candy filled egg treat on top.  I displayed mine on cupcake pedestals.  These would also look really nice displayed down the center of your Easter table as a centerpiece or on top of your mantle!

These fun Bunny Cotton Tail Cupcakes are so easy to make!  Just dip frosted cupcakes into coconut and you've got a hoppy little treat for your Easter celebration.

My kids ABSOLUTELY loooooove Jelly Bean Bark!  Ever since we made these  about two years ago, they have become an Easter Basket staple in our house.

I am pretty sure these pompom chicks are an Easter party activity that will save the day!

My kids absolute love marshmallows AND cupcakes.....these Lamb Cupcakes are a total 2-for-1!  These are made with white mini and regular sized cupcakes.  The faces are the mini cupcakes, placed on top of a regular frosted cupcake and decorated with tons of mini marshmallows

I'm not kidding.....I made these twine wrapped Easter Eggs a few years back and thought they were the bees knees!  I'm seeing them all over the place now - pretty cool.... and I think they have a very Pottery Barn feel too them.  With Farmhouse being the new trend in home decor, I think they are perfect for anyone loving that style!
