Flamingo Trunk or Treat

YAY FOR HALLOWEEN!

I'm so excited to be part of the Trunk or Treat Blog Hop hosted by Nikki Willis of Tikkido.  Each year she rounds up some of the most fabulous creative bloggers and lets us share some pretty awesome ideas for decking out our rides for a trunk or treat.

This year, I was really into flamingos....I went to San Diego in April and visited the zoo during my stay and got to see these beautiful pink birds and was instantly hooked.  Everything was just flamingo this and that for me after that trip.  So, I figured, it would just make sense to round up my Halloween with a Flamingo themed trunk or treat!

Oh and if you're wondering what a trunk or treat is....it's a fun way for kids and families to trick or treat.  Usually hosted by community organizations, churches or neighborhoods, sometimes in parking lots or other outdoors spaces.  Folks dress up their vehicles...trunks and pass out candy or treats.  It's really fun and you should try it!

For this year's trunk or treat, I was lucky enough to again, work with my favorite party supplier, Oriental TradingCompany, to get some fun flamingo themed products.

If you need ideas on how to set up your trunk for a trunk or treat, I have some tips.  I always start with a fabric cloth...usually a dark one because it blocks the light.  I always tack the fabric and other items I am hanging up with t-pins or straight pins.  For my set up, I just hung a dark fabric behind a pink plastic table cover.  Then, I hung a Trick or Treat banner up using pins as well.

My next step was to create some sort of facade to somewhat dress up the not so pretty parts of hubby's car....and just really for overall decor.  Faux tropical leaves were perfect for this and I added a few pink balloons blown up at different sizes for a pop of color!  They almost look like flowers!  A few colorful streamers were added to the mix just to hide more of the car.  Here's another tip, use a strong double stick tape to hold items like this into place.  They attach to metal and plastic easily and can be taken off without leaving anything on the car.

I placed one of my go-to fabric coverings on the floor of the trunk.  The black and white stripes pick up the black and white colors in the Trick or Treat banner perfectly.  I added more pops of color with a few decorative paper rosettes, a pink feather boa, and striped balloons from Oriental TradingCompany.

...and I had to add a pink pumpkin....of course.

To finish everything off, I added a fun lightbox sign, wooden flamingos,  along with a few favor boxes filled with candy and flamingo pinwheels!  I chose my candy because they were 'sticks' as a nod to the long legs of the flamingos.

I always like to have a fun show stopper and this large inflatable flamingo was SO perfect!

A trunk or treat is all about having fun.  It doesn't have to always fit a typical Halloween theme - just use your imagination and go for it.

Thanks to Nikki for hosting this fun and fantastic blog hop again....and for always being so super sweet for having me back every year!  HUGS

Silly Monster Trunk or Treat

Who's going Trunk or Treating this year??!!!  Well, I'm happy to participate in another Trunk or Treat Blog Hop hosted by Tikkido!  Today I'm sharing my fun and SILLY Monster Trunk or Treat ideas with you.  Last year my trunk or treat theme was a bit morbidly cute....I mean, gravestones, black cats...it's all fab Halloween goodness.  This year, I'm all in for laughs and giggles.  I found the most adorable Silly Monsters party goods at Oriental Trading this year and can't wait to share all my fun tips and ideas for setting up your very own fun and silly Monster themed trunk or treat!

If you've been reading my blog for a while, you know I'm super crazy about Halloween.  It's my absolute favorite holiday!  So, when decided to focus on a fun monster theme this year I wanted to get really fun costumes, weird treats and have some activities and not just focus on the candy.

All the decorations for my trunk setup are from Oriental Trading company.  They have the most adorable monster themed decor.  I found a huge monster mouth photo prop that I thought would be great for photos. When I took it out of the box, I instantly knew I could do more with it.  So, I made it the focal piece for our trunk.  I had my husband add some support and a stand to the back of the prop and then placed bowls of sweets in behind the mouth.  Using a few glasses and two sided tape, I propped up monster cut outs from the Monster Decorating Kit and hung hanging decor from the ceiling using T-pins and push pins.  The Monster Treat Stand with Cones were also another great decorative piece.

My 'MOM-ster' costume was an easy DIY.  I used a Blue Beehive Wig and enormous Glow in the dark googly eye and dressed up in khaki's, a polo top, pearls and an apron!  My kids followed along the monster fun.  My daughter loves this Polka Dot Monster Girls Halloween Costume and my son had a blast dressed up as a Purple eyeball - it really is a costume made for adults, but I think he did it justice in his own little way.

I set up fun activities like Pin the Eye on the Monster, make your own monster with a Monster Magnet Craft Kit, a Monster Bean Bag Toss Game and downloaded Mini Monster Free Printable Coloring Page directly from the Oriental Trading site.  Then, for each activity that was completed, I handed the kids a  Monster Face Sticker for a 'prize'. You can do the same and make sure that once all the activities are complete the trunk or treaters get a bag of sweets!

I love that I also found fun candy from Oriental Trading.  As soon as I saw these Snotten Candy Cotton Candy Fun Pak bags, I knew I had to get them for my kids.  They LOVE cotton candy!  They also love marshmallows and these Oozing Eyeballs are right up their lane.  They also have the most adorable Goofy Monster Head Suckers.  I used these along with Laffy Taffy candy in our treat cones.  To mix things up a bit, I added a few frosted sugar cookies to our sweets spread because......cookies.

If you're trunk or treating this year, be sure to share your fun party set ups with me on Instagram and use the hashtag #cwbdpartieshalloween....and hey, even if you're not, be sure to share your Halloween fun and celebrations!

I received product to review from Oriental Trading.  No other compensation was received.  The opinions expressed in this post are my own.

Trunk or Treat Blog Hop

tombstone, chalkboard, pumpkin, banner

Load up your car with lots of tricks and treats this Halloween for a fun Trunk or Treat celebration!  I've teamed up with a few blogging friends for a hop to share different ways to decorate your trunk for Halloween!

Ya'll know that Halloween is just about my most favorite holiday to celebrate.  So, when it came to finding ideas for my theme.....I didn't have to look far.  I literally pulled everything for this trunk (other than the candy) right out of my Halloween stash - it cost me less than $20 to pull all of this together and under an hour to set up.

This Trunk or Treat thing is new to me.  I had to research what it is all about.  You should see some of the wild themes that people come up with.  Since I am working on several other Halloween projects, I thought I'd make things pretty simple and share how to easily and affordably decorate a trunk for Halloween.

For the decor I did a lot of pattern play and wanted to  pull in the colors from a plaid table cover that I found last year at the thrift store.   Since plaid is very trendy right now, I'm WINNING!!!  (PS is plaid really ever NOT trendy?)  Mixing up patterns works well here because I'm staying consistent with the black, orange and grey color scheme.

I set up my trunk by hanging creepy cloth and black felt to the inside roof of the car and secured the fabric with stick pins.  Then I hung a banner that I made with a few pieces of scrapbook paper just to add a pop of color to all of that black.

Since my third row folds down, I was able to create a little height and level to the area where I wanted to place my candy and snacks.  I used the black and orange plaid cloth just to cover up and protect the seats.  Then I built up my display area by placing a wooden crate upside down to hold my treat bags.  I also used styrofoam gravestones to camouflage the paneling in the car.  I lined the floor of the trunk with a spiderweb patterned fabric and used more creepy cloth gauze to cover up the closure for the trunk.  A simple chalkboard sign tied it all together!  How's that for some neat tricks?  All that was left to do after my setup was to add my treats!

Seriously, you cannot have a Halloween anything, without popcorn!  I love popcorn and general and it's always a great treat for Halloween.  I just purchased bags of popcorn, lined a black plastic cauldron with an orange cloth napkin and filled that with butter popcorn!  YUM-O!!!

I purchased these glitter jack-o-lantern buckets from Target a few years bag.  It takes quite a bit of candy to fill.  So, to keep things simple, I filled this bucket with crumpled newspaper and decorative filler and topped it with Halloween lollipops.

I used these bags to hold mini pretzels that I purchased from the Dollar store.  There were 8 bags in this package...which worked out great because the pretzels were not the cute ones you can buy during Halloween with the themed packaging....they were just  basic bags of pretzels.   So, I tossed them in these cute Halloween Cat topped bags and voila!  Instant Halloween swag!

I have never done a trunk or treat, but now, I'm hooked.  It took me very little time to set up, it's totally mobile and if I wanted to just host a party in my drive way, it means less work decorating my house!!!  SWEET!!!  There are several trunk or treats happening in my area and I'm definitely down to share my Halloween flair with the community.  Be sure to hop on over to visit what my blogging pals are sharing for their Halloween trunk fun!
